JOHN Smith

I knew I was called to pastor but didn’t feel ready to lead. When Virgil shared that he felt led to start a new church in Tucson, I was all in. We co-founded what’s now Goodness Family Church.

Before that, I served as the Assistant Director of Abundant Heart Ministries and helped run Faith Ministry Training Institute, a Bible school focused on equipping others for ministry.

Today, I serve as the Lead Pastor. I try to listen well and encourage people to keep going, even when life feels heavy. Most days I still feel pretty inadequate, but I believe in what God can do through ordinary people.

My passion is helping people discover, define, develop, and step into their God-given calling. That’s what lights me up.

At home, I make up silly songs with my family. I love the sound of fall leaves and crisp air in the woods. Valarie and I have three adult kids who continue to amaze us.
